Bidz.com sees strong overseas growth, especially where Spanish is spoken
Translation of online jewelry retailer Bidz.com’s web site into Spanish this year is paying off. Spanish-speaking countries – Spain, Mexico, Chile and Colombia – now rank in the top 10 countries that drive traffic to the web site, says Bidz.com. In addition to translating content, the company also hired Spanish-speaking customer service staff to help jewelry shoppers in the new markets.
Bidz.com, No. 74 in the , has seen a 50% growth in international sales so far in the second quarter of fiscal 2008, the company says. Bidz.com plans to translate its site into Arabic and German as well.
“The Spanish translation of our web site is yielding the desired results and we are encouraged that future translations into foreign languages will be equally successful,” says David Zinberg, CEO of Bidz.com.
24% of Bidz.com’s revenue comes from outside the U.S., and international revenue grew 60% in the first quarter of 2008. The company reported net sales of $61.9 million for the quarter, a 38.5% increase compared with $44.7 million reported in the first quarter of 2007.
The company expects second quarter 2008 revenue to be in the range of $48 million to $50 million and 2008 annual revenue to be in the range of $225 million to $230 million.
