Netflix subscribers will shell out more green for Blu-ray discs
Netflix Inc. is raising its subscription rates by $1 per month for consumers who wish to rent high-definition Blu-ray DVDs. The company says the increase is necessary because Blu-ray discs cost more than standard DVDs.
The price increase will take effect Nov. 5. Subscribers who do not want to pay more must remove Blu-ray access from their accounts to avoid incurring the additional fee, Jessie Teitz, vice president of marketing, wrote in a Netflix blog this week.
“We have more than 800 Blu-ray titles, and growing, for you to enjoy as part of your Netflix subscription,” Teitz wrote. “We think you’ll agree a $1 increase in your monthly subscription is pretty modest for you to enjoy this compelling format.”
