Dell drops and The Home Depot hits its stride in traffic, Nielsen says

Traffic to The Home Depot rose 24% in August compared to last year. For Dell, the news wasn’t as good. The computer manufacturer’s unique visitors for the month fell 12% from a year earlier, according to Nielsen Online.

The top 10 online shopping destinations in August with unique visitors in millions this year and last and growth from prior year, according to Nielsen Online were:

  • eBay, 55.84, 60.11, -7%
  • Amazon.com, 47.05, 42.67, 10%
  • Target, 25.77, 23.99, 7%
  • Wal-Mart Stores, 24.01, 22.24, 8%
  • Dell, 16.06, 18.32, -12%
  • Best Buy, 13.86, 12.01, 15%
  • Netflix, 13.68, 11.52, 19%
  • Circuit City, 13.04, 11.13, 17%
  • The Home Depot, 12.51, 10.08, 24%
  • Sears, 12.06, 10.90, 11%
Unique visitors count only once each shopper who came to a site, no matter how many times the shopper visited. This is a custom list compiled by Internet Retailer of the top e-commerce sites based on Nielsen Online traffic data.

The top 10 consumer goods advertisers in terms of online ad impressions (in millions) in August, according to Nielsen data, were:
