The Pirate Bay Sucessfully Appeals Italian Block

The war against unauthorized file-sharing has taken another bad turn for the entertainment industry today, as The Pirate Bay appears to have won their appeal in Italy. If you've been following along you'll remember that a judge in Italy ordered a nationwide block of the Swedish BitTorrent tracker in August of this year. The Italian crackdown on The Pirate Bay was preceded by the shutdown of Colombo-BT, one of the largest trackers in the country.

Today's news comes at a particularly sensitive time for the entertainment industry, as yesterday it learned that it could not hold onto its one and only victory in the United States. The verdict and $220,000 award against Jammie Thomas were thrown out, deflating any public relations boost the industry may have had.

Now, it appears The Pirate Bay is getting in on the action. In a made by Pirate Bay spokesperson Peter Sunde, he exclaims, "The Pirate Bay won the case in Italy. The lawyers have done a fantastic job!" News on this matter is very fresh, however, the the appeal is available.

Details are on the scant side at the moment, and it remains to be seen when, or if, Italians will be seeing The Pirate Bay return any time soon.
