TELUS Selects Nokia For Broadband Rollout In Western Canada

Mobile telecommunications giant will supply broadband infrastructure to build and support Canada’s TELUS next-generation IP broadband access network, the firm said Tuesday.

Nokia said TELUS has picked Nokia’s D500 IP multiservice platform for its next IP network.

“Today’s announcement with TELUS demonstrates our broader networking capabilities spanning both fixed and mobile arenas,” said Kevin Kelly, general manager, Fixed Operator Solutions, Nokia Networks.

The Nokia D500 IP DSLAM multiservice platform is equipped with ADSL2+ technology and is targeted for use in high-speed broadband applications.

The D500 architecture is versatile, able to support residential or business broadband services from either heavily-populated central areas or remote outdoor sites, Nokia said. TELUS has some 4.7 million network access lines and 4.1 million wireless customers in Western Canada.
