Microsoft Gets Windows Media On Japanese Handsets
Microsoft's Windows Media Audio and Digital Rights Management 10 software would ship first with DoCoMo's F902iS model, which is scheduled for release this summer. DoCoMo is evaluating Microsoft's Windows Media Video for future handsets.
The initial deployment of Microsoft software will enable DoCoMo phones connected to its high-speed FOMA network to play music downloaded from the Internet or from a PC. Key to making music available is the ability to protect holders through Microsoft software.
"Microsoft's Windows Media and the company's commitment toward enabling new digital rights management solutions for the wireless environment are helping to push the industry forward," Takeshi Natsuno, senior vice president, managing director for multimedia services at DoCoMo, said in a statement.
